In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the function of the right ventricle in health and disease. The complexity of right ventricular (RV) morphology presents us with difficulties in clinical assessment and challenges in imaging. Transthoracic echocardiography is the mainstay of non-invasive assessment of the right ventricle and, in this supplement, we provide a comprehensive overview of this subject that will be of interest to cardiologists, cardiac physiologists and other clinicians in this field.

We are delighted to present contributions from authors who are international experts in cardiac anatomy, echocardiography and other imaging modalities, congenital and acquired heart disease. Ho and Nihoyannopoulos (p i2) present an elegant and comprehensive review of the anatomy of the right heart including RV structure and musculature. Anatomic landmarks are correlated with echocardiographic imaging planes . . . [Full text of this article]
