Why should lipid lowering drugs be associated with an increased risk of developing peripheral neuropathies [1,2]? For the same reason that rapid glycaemic control might be [3]? That would imply that fatty acids can be used as a substrate for oxidative phosphorylation in the brain just as it is peripherally and the current view is that it cannot.
