The authors’ reply: We thank Drs Goldstein, Mascitelli and Pezzetta for raising the concern of a statin/oestrogen interaction and, possibly, a synergism between statins and oestrogen in raising the level of peripheral regulatory T-cell (Treg) concentration, given the evidence that oestrogen significantly increases Treg concentration.
