We thank Redpath and Capewell for referring to the Information Services Division (ISD) data and applaud their careful analysis of trends in coronary heart disease (CHD) in Scotland. These data confirm that the incidence of first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has been declining during recent years. A general decreasing trend remains despite the introduction of more sensitive diagnostic tests (for example, troponin and other biomarkers) for MI over recent years.
