The recent therapeutical effects of septal pacing on the cardiac arrhythmia

Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutical effects of septal pacing on the cardiac arrhythmia.

Methods 62 patients with sick sinus syndrome and (or) high/third degree A-V block were implanted with pacemaker in right atrial septum and (or) the right ventricular septum. 24 h dynamic electrocardiogram (DCG) were recorded before and after pacemaker implantation in all patients who were followed-up at 32–660 (346.29±196.08) days after being discharged.

Results The pacing leads were implanted successfully at septum in all patients without any complication. The frequencies of atrial premature complexes (APCs), the arrays of paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT) and paroxysmal atrial flutter/fibrillation (PAFL/PAF), and the episode cases of APC were significantly reduced (p<0.05) and the episode cases of PAT and PAFL/PAF tended to be reduced (p>0.05) after the DDD and AAI septal pacing. The frequencies of ventricular premature complexes (VPCs) were markedly decreased (p<0.05) and the arrays of paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia (PVT) and the episode cases of VPCs and PVT tended to be reduced too (p>0.05) after DDD and VVI septal pacing. The frequencies of ventricular arrhythmia tended to be reduced (p>0.05) after VVI septal pacing.

Conclusions The septal pacing is feasible and effective, which can decrease cardiac arrhythmia.
