Objectives To investigate the effect of diabetic education on metabolic improvement in Tibetan diabetic patients.
Methods Diabetic patients were screened in Niang-Re community of Lhasa city, Body mass index (BMI), serum lipid, glycosylated haemoglobin were measured. Intervention on drug therapy and life-style education were carried out in all patients. Patients were divided into education group and control group. Face-to-face follow-up was done in education group. Metabolic parameters were measured half year after intervention.
Results To tally 113 patients were enrolled in this study. Metabolic parameters in education group (56 subjects)were all better (P < 0.05) than those in control group (57 subjects). Within education group, metabolic parameters were all improved after intervention. But no improvement was found within control group.
Conclusions Face-to-face follow-up on Tibetan diabetic patients is highly effective.
