Objectives To investigated the effect of Maixuekang capsule on ankle-brachial index (ABI) and symptoms in patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO).

Methods 60 patients with ASO were treated with Maixue Kang capsule to the end of the two courses. Symptoms, the degree of pain, dorsalis pedis arterial blood flow and ABI were obtained before and after treatment by questionnaire, ultrasound and Complior apparatus, respectively.

Results The levels of dorsalis pedis arterial blood flow and ABI were significantly improved after treatment of Maixuekang capsule (2.06 ± 0.05 vs 1.65 ± 0.03, 0.86 ± 0.16 vs 0.67 ± 0.13, both p < 0.05). And the uncomfortable symptoms and pain were significantly relieved.

Conclusions ABI and dorsalis pedis were significantly improved after treatment with Maixue Kang capsule in patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans.
