We appreciate Dr Atkinson's letter1 discussing our recent paper on endothelial function and impact of obesity in persons with obstructive sleep apnoea.2 In our study, flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in the brachial artery was used to measure endothelial function. The FMD method was introduced in 1992 by Celermajer and coworkers and has subsequently been used to investigate endothelial function in numerous studies.
