A 49-year-old lady presented to the emergency department with acute onset chest pain and non-specific ECG changes. CT revealed a Stanford type-A aortic dissection (figure 1A). She underwent an emergency surgical repair. Intraoperative transoesophageal echocardiogram demonstrated aortic root dissection (figure 1B, see online supplementary video 1).
