2018, Experimental Eye ResearchCitation Excerpt :MMP-8 differs from other collagenases in that it has a very limited tissue distribution. Giambernardi et al. (1998) reported the results from an extensive study on the expression of MMP-8 mRNA in 84 normal and transformed or carcinogen-transformed human cell lines and strains derived from different tissues; including various cancer cell lines, breast epithelial cells and numerous normal and transformed fibroblast cell lines. They found that MMP-8 mRNA was only expressed in two cutaneous melanoma cell lines, and could not be detected in other 82 tested cell lines or primary cell cultures (Giambernardi et al., 1998).
