2007, Journal of the American Society of EchocardiographyCitation Excerpt :A 3D presentation of the mitral valve is highly desirable to the surgeon for planning surgery. Reconstruction of the mitral valve en face from the LA side provides a view of the valve similar to that seen intraoperatively by the cardiac surgeon, with an additional advantage of displaying the dynamic motion of the valve within the beating heart.23 Earlier studies have suggested that 3D-TEE was feasible but not superior to 2D-TEE for precise anatomic localization of prolapsing mitral valve segments.4,5,24,25
