Similarly, also the MB isoform of CK (CK-MB) has been shown to increase after physical exercise or in subjects with inflammatory muscular disease or traumatic muscular lesions (particularly those involving the diaphragm and tongue, which are intrinsically rich in CK-MB and are frequently involved in deceleration traumas) [24,25]. However, although CK-MB was initially reported to provide an increased specificity for the detection of myocardial injuries in patients with multiple traumatic lesions, further studies have reported a low sensitivity and specificity of CK-MB for myocardial injury even in case of mild non-cardiac muscular lesions [26].

2007, Forensic Science InternationalCitation Excerpt :Serum Mb, CK-MB, troponin I and troponin T have been used as diagnostic biochemical markers for cardiac contusion or myocardial infarction clinically. Elevated serum Mb, CK-MB, and troponin I and troponin T were detected in patients with early myocardial infarction [34–38] or cardiac contusion [7,10,39–42]. In recent years, it is demonstrated that serum troponin I and troponin T are highly specific to myocardial injury, especially in the diagnosis of myocardial contusion as they are myocardial regulatory contractile proteins which are not found in skeletal muscles and are released into the circulation only after loss of membrane integrity in comparison with serum Mb and CK-MB [7,10,42].
