    Citation Excerpt :

One previous article has found that long-term nitrate use was associated with increased mortality, and that the effect withstood statistical devices for control of confounding such as propensity scores and sensitivity analyses.25 Despite these attempts to control confounding, it is still possible that the use of nitrates merely serves as a surrogate for unknown factors that are associated with a poor prognosis.24,26 The use of ACE inhibitors or diuretics may also be markers for congestive heart failure.
