    As mentioned in the guidelines, a tailored approach, given individual patient considerations, should be used; yet no specific guidance on identifying patients at high or low risk for resolution is referenced. Although the index operation may be important in determining the likelihood of recovery, and therefore the appropriate observation period, the rate of short-term, postoperative recovery in different surgical valve populations is rather consistent with rates of 42%-47% in heterogenous populations,2,20,26 47% after mitral valve repair,27 and 44% in isolated aortic valve replacement.28 In patients with a high likelihood of recovery, a longer delay would be warranted, but no reliable method exists to stratify these individuals.
