Risk factors responsible for atrial fibrillation development between symptomatic patients with concealed or manifest atrioventricular accessory pathways
2015, IJC Heart and VasculatureCitation Excerpt :Multiple factors are related to the development of AF in patients with APs. Previous studies demonstrated that AVRT could spontaneously degenerate into AF and surgical or catheter ablation of APs could often reduce the recurrence of AF [9–12]. Thus, APs and AVRT might serve as one of the mechanisms responsible for the development of AF.
Lone Atrial Fibrillation in the Pediatric Population
2013, Canadian Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :It has been proposed that fast atrial activation occurring during tachycardia episodes may degenerate into AF.27 Adult studies have reported approximately 10% of patients with lone AF had inducible SVT on EP study, and ablation of the SVT pathway resulted in varying rates of AF recurrence.25,27 Ceresnak et al. found that 7 of 18 (39%) pediatric patients with lone AF had inducible SVT on EP study and underwent ablation with no recurrence of AF after a mean of 1.7 years.24
