2022, Cardiac Electrophysiology ClinicsCitation Excerpt :In a Canadian study, 75% of patients with a ventricular rate of 100/min or higher during persistent AFl and left ventricular dysfunction had significant improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction after catheter ablation, as compared with 25% with a ventricular rate of less than 100/min17; furthermore, heart rate was the only independent predictor of recovery from left ventricular dysfunction.17 The recovery of atrial contribution to ventricular filling may explain the improvement in left ventricular systolic function seldomly seen with restoration of sinus rhythm among patients with AFl, HF, and a well-controlled ventricular rate.17 Because of its high acute (87%–100%) and long-term success rate (70%–95%),16 catheter ablation is a preferrable therapeutic option for patients with typical AFl and HF, especially when tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy is suspected.18
