Valvular and Congenital Heart DiseaseThrombolytic therapy for prosthetic valve thrombosis: Short- and long-term results☆
Section snippets
Methods
Between 1990 and 1999, 116 patients were seen in our center with PVT. During this period, our policy has been to routinely use TT as the treatment modality for PVT. Of these, 6 patients were treated with surgery instead of TT because of contraindications to TT. The other 110 patients who were given thrombolytic therapy are the subjects of this study. Our initial experience in the first 16 patients was previously reported.9 All patients with a confirmed diagnosis of obstructive PVT on clinical,10
Results
The demographic characteristics of the 110 patients are summarized in Table I.The ages ranged from 11 to 68 years (mean 35.4 ± 10.8 years) and 52 (47.3%) were male. Fifty-one (46.4%) patients were in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III at presentation. Twenty-seven (24.5%) of the patients were in NYHA class IV whereas 7 (6.4%) patients were in cardiogenic shock or overt pulmonary edema (class V). The anticoagulation was considered adequate (prothrombin time of at least twice the control
Discussion
This study extends observations regarding the efficacy and safety of TT in patients with left-sided PVT and also provides further data on the long-term follow-up of these patients.

2022, Indian Heart JournalCitation Excerpt :Patients from low-middle income (LMIC)countries like India faces difficulties in getting PT-INR testing and dose adjustment by the physician/cardiologist periodically. This forces the patient to skip the tests and physician visits, which can lead to bleeding1 or thrombosis,2 which can be catastrophic. In a recent study the TTR (time in therapeutic range) was only 60% as reported from Chhattisgarh.3
