Objective To investigate efficacy and safety of drug-eluting stent implantation on patients with unprotected left main coronary artery disease.

Methods Twelve patients with unprotected left main coronary disease had been enrolled. Of the 12 patients, two with ostial lesion, three with body lesion, four with distal bifurcation lesion, one with proximal lesion, one with whole left main lesion. All patients had stenosis of over 50%. Percutanenous coronary intervention was accomplished with standard processes.

Results The success rate of the procedure was 100%, without cardiac complications. Angina pectoris had relieved in all patients. The left ventricular ejection fraction of two patients with cardiac dysfunction increased over 10%. No one died during following up.

Conclusion Drug-eluting stent for treatment of left main coronary disease is effective and safe. Suitable case selection, treatment strategy and operative skills are the key of procedural success.
