Recommended levels of normality for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

Blood pressure levels (mm Hg)
OptimalNormalAbnormal
The evidence supporting the normal and abnormal demarcation levels are based on firm evidence from a number of studies; the evidence is not yet available to make recommendations for the intermediate pressure ranges between the “normal” and “abnormal” levels, nor for recommendations lower than those given. It must be emphasised that these levels are only a guide to “normality” and that lower “optimal” levels may be more appropriate in patients whose total risk factor profile is high, and in whom there is concomitant disease, such as diabetes mellitus.
