2013, Autonomic Neuroscience: Basic and ClinicalCitation Excerpt :In the present study, the diurnal rhythm in SDANN was disrupted starting at 2 weeks post-MI in rats, except in week 4. The results largely accord with previous studies in humans in that this type of autonomic imbalance has also been reported to occur at 2 weeks (Malik et al., 1990) or 4 weeks post-MI (Lombardi et al., 1992), and SDANN in rats with heart failure was decreased at 3 to 7 weeks (Henze et al., 2008). Most previous studies (Karason et al., 1999; Boettger et al., 2006; Zulfiqar et al., 2010) revealed that SDANN reflects parasympathetic and sympathetic tone (Boettger et al., 2006) or considered SDANN the index of sympathetic activity (Karason et al., 1999) and the HRV-sympathetic function (Zulfiqar et al., 2010).
