2023, Journal of Diabetes and its Complications17β-Estradiol alleviates cardiac aging induced by D-galactose by downregulating the methylation of autophagy-related genes
2021, SteroidsCitation Excerpt :Menopause and aging affect all tissues and organs, including the heart. Earlier reports showed that compared with men, estrogen helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in women [17,18]. Our research consistently shows that 17β-estradiol (17β-E2) inhibits vascular aging by activating the autophagy pathway [19-21].

2017, American Journal of CardiologyAfter 50 years and 200 papers, what can the Midspan cohort studies tell us about our mortality?
2017, Public HealthCitation Excerpt :Among never-smokers, there was a statistically significant trend between lower FEV1 and higher mortality rates due to all causes, ischaemic heart disease, respiratory diseases and other causes apart from cancer. Death rates from coronary heart disease were found to be much higher among men than women at every age and every level of smoking, blood pressure, plasma cholesterol, body mass index and social class.13 After 10–14 years of follow-up, age-adjusted all-cause mortality rates were twice as high among men than women.14
