Gender differences in relation to motivation and compliance in cardiac rehabilitation

Nurs Crit Care. 1998 Sep-Oct;3(5):214-9.

Abstract

Cardiac rehabilitation is increasingly becoming accepted as a treatment that improves quality of life post myocardial infarction. Typically a higher proportion of men than women attend cardiac rehabilitation classes. Low attendance by women gives the impression that women are less motivated and therefore less complaint towards cardiac rehabilitation. A number of issues need to be addressed by health workers, if equality is to be achieved and women are to be encouraged to take up such health orientated initiatives.
